Malden Mayor Issues New COVID-19 Alert After Uptick In Cases
The city's average positivity rate rose over the past two weeks, Mayor Gary Christenson said.
MALDEN, MA — Mayor Gary Christenson issued a new health alert Friday following a recent uptick in COVID-19 cases. The city's average positivity rate over the past two weeks rose from 2.4 percent to 3.2 percent, Christenson said. The case count in Malden was 1,335 as of Aug. 7.
While this does not qualify Malden as a coronavirus "hot spot" as defined by the state, Christenson cautioned residents about non-family gatherings, private parties, use of parks and participating in organized sports and other recreational activities.
"I cannot stress enough the importance of face coverings, social distancing, continual hand-washing and sanitizing, and not sharing equipment or food," Christenson said.
