MALDEN, MA — Malden Police personnel gathered alongside state and local counterparts from across Massachusetts on Friday to honor a group of fallen officers as their names were added to the state Law Enforcement Memorial in Boston.

This year’s batch of inductees included Malden Officer Allan “Aldo” Ray, who died in 2014 due to complications of injuries sustained just over two years prior when making an arrest.

The Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial is located in Ashburton Park at the Massachusetts State House. It aims to honor Massachusetts law enforcement personnel killed in the line of duty.

Units gathered last week for a reading of names currently memorialized at the site, including 21 new inductees for 2022.

Malden Police Chief Glenn Cronin was on hand alongside the Malden Police Honor Guard and members of Ray’s family.

Ray was born and raised in Malden before joining the Malden Police Department in 1980. He spent much of his career working night shifts, earning a reputation as a compassionate and dedicated officer, as noted by former Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis in comments last May.

Ray served for 34 years prior to his death in September, 2014 after he suffered arm and back injuries while trying to arrest a person in January, 2012.

Malden Police honored Ray in Malden last year, dedicating the roadway into Malden Police Headquarters as “Aldo’s Way.”

“He was an officer who put his life on the line for people on the margins of society,” Molis said at the event dedication.

“He personifies the very essence of service to others,” Molis later said.

Cronin thanked community members on Friday who attended the day’s Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial ceremony.

The memorial can be seen at Ashburton Park off Bowdoin Street on the Massachusetts State House grounds in Boston.
