5 Things: Former Mayor Recalls Secret Army Days; Weekend Weather Outlook

Good morning, here are five things to know today:

1. Jack McGlynn Recalls Time in 'Ghost Army': The Boston Globe reported yesterday on McGlynn's time in the 23d Headquarters Special Troops, known as the Ghost Army. The former Mayor and father of current Mayor Michael McGlynn kept his service a secret from family and friends for over 60 years. “Those were my orders,’’ McGlynn told the Globe. “And I followed them.’’

West, a professor, scholar and activist, spoke to students and other members of the Tufts at Cohen Auditorium Wednesday as part of the Faculty Progressive Caucus American Democracy in Crisis Series. He spoke for over two hours, touching on a wide range of subjects. Of the Occupy Movement, he said: "I think that this coming spring we are going to see waves and layers of activism...this coming spring is going to be, I think, a magnificent flowering of awakening among young folks."

3. Rain or Snow Today, But a Clear Weekend: It could possibly start as snow early this morning, but turn to rain by 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. It's expected to be mostly sunny Saturday and Sunday with highs around 40 degrees.

: Residents throughout the Commonwealth who choose to host "Bring Your Own Booze" parties are now free from liability if underage drinking occurs at those events and guests who drive drunk cause injuries, death or damage, according to a Boston Herald report Tuesday. Malden Police are seeking help in identifying the man in the photo accompanying this post, who robbed the Citizen's Bank at 876 Main St. in Malden last Saturday. Police said a white male, about 5'10”, with no facial hair and a light-colored winter hat handed a teller a note demanding money around 11 a.m.
