Here's some of the top headlines from the communities just beyond Medford's borders last week:

: MALDEN -- Surveillance cameras at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s high school facility captured an odd sight Sunday night. A man wearing a hat stole flowers from two large planters near the Highland Avenue school’s entrance.

: WINCHESTER -- As the weather starts to get warmer, Winchester is beginning to see an increase in house break-ins. Within the last week four homes have been broken into, with three break-ins over the last two days. Homes that have been entered were located along Forest Street, Highland Avenue, Sunset Road and North Board Road.

ARLINGTON -- Robert Hersey, 43, of Arlington, was arrested and charged last Tuesday Tuesday with interfering with aircraft operation, according to Massachusetts State Police. He was released on $1,000 bail and ordered to remain alcohol-free after pleading not guilty at an arraignment.

: SOMERVILLE -- Plans are in place for a nine-unit housing project at a large unused lot on Cedar Street in Somerville. The owner/developer of 270 Cedar St. is awaiting a foundation permit from the city, according to city planning official, Monica Lamboy.

: MELROSE -- Robert Limose, 35, was arrested in Boston last Thursday for allegedly soliciting an undercover Boston Police officer posing as a prostitute, according to the Boston Police Department website.
