Fire at DPW Yard Doused Quickly
Fire in office put out by firefighters and DPW workers.
A fire at the Department of Public Works yard on James Street was extinguished quickly Monday afternoon, a fire official said.
The fire started in a small office at the yard and spread to one of the walls. Public works crew men used a fire extinguisher to help contain it before the fire department arrived and ran a hose to the office, Deputy fire Chief Patrick Ripley said. The office sustained smoke, fire and water damage, but the fire did not spread beyond there, Ripley said.
The fire started about 12:30 p.m. at the yard, located at 21 James St. The yard is less than a quarter-mile from the Fire Department.
