UPDATE: Incident at Everett Substation Left Much of Medford without Power

Outages spread from Wellington to West Medford.

Most of Medford was without power Friday morning due to an incident at a power substation in Everett.

A contractor working at an Everett substation accidentally came in contact with a guy wire, leading to about 27,800 customers losing their power between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Friday morning, National Grid Spokeswoman Amy Zorich said.

About 19,000 customers were restored by 8:30 a.m., and the rest -- which were in West Medford -- were restored by about 9:25 a.m., Zorich said.

Between 30 and 40 alarms sounded due to outage, and mutual aid had to be called in for assistance, Deputy fire Chief Steve Howe said.

According to it's outage map, nearly all of Medford north of the Mystic River was  without power.

No one was hurt in the incident at the substation, Zorich said.
