Fire Log: Basement Fire on Greenhalge St. Monday

A basement fire on Greenhalge Street was put out quickly, but not before it caused about $75,000 in damage, fire officials said.

Engine six arrived at 35 Greenhalge St. just before 10 p.m. and found a fire in the basement that had spread to the walls, Deputy fire Chief Steve Howe said. It was quickly put out, and all five occupants were able to get out safely on their own, Howe said.

The fire appeared to have started near a table in the basement, Howe said. The cause remains under investigation.

According to estimators, the fire caused about $60,000 in damage to the structure, and $15,000 in damage to contents in the home.
