Grace Church Takes Down Bells for Restoration

It's the first time the bells have been removed since they were installed in 1873.

The following was submitted by the Rev. Noah Evans on behalf of Grace Episcopal Church:

On June 5 and 6, the nine bells from the Grace Episcopal Church bell tower were removed to be refurbished as part of Phase two of the church's restoration project of its historic building.

This is the first time the bells have been removed since they were installed in 1873.  The bells were all cast by Blake Brothers Company, the successor firm to Paul Revere's foundry and the largest bell was given to Grace Church by the city of Medford for use as a fire-bell.

The bells are being shipped to Chime Master in Lancaster, Ohio to be restored, fitted with new clappers and placed on a new metal frame, and then re-installed in the bell tower this fall after the restoration work on the 90 foot bell tower is complete.

The bells have not been able to ring for over 10 years.
