Mayor: New Housing Projects Coming in Medford

Former sites of Sentry auto dealership, GE plant will become new housing developments, according to Mayor Michael McGlynn.

In his "State of the City" address last week, Medford Mayor Michael J. McGlynn touted two new housing development projects coming down the pike for the city.

McGlynn discussed the plans of Criterion Development to build a 163-unit premium apartment complex on the site of the former Sentry auto dealership on Mystic Valley Parkway.

McGlynn said the Criterion purchased the site "recognizing the superb location and amenities of Wellington Station."

According to McGlynn, Criterion plans to break ground on the site next month.

"This project will expand our economic base, create 16 affordable housing units, generate $341,000 in building permit fees, $573,000 in linkage fees and generate additional tax revenue," McGlynn said.

There are also plans for new housing units at another large city parcel. McGlynn said North Shore Construction has signed a purchase and sales agreement for the former General Electric plant site at 320 Middlesex Ave.

"The company has made a significant investment to remediate this brownfield site and intends to create 175 housing units," McGlynn said.

In discussing the projects, McGlynn mentioned the city's recent honors for livability by publications like Boston magazine and Redfin.com.
