MEDFORD, MA — The city announced a groundbreaking celebration for an accessibility project on Mystic River Road on Friday, May 9.

The project’s plans include pedestrian accessibility and safety improvements to the West Medford Community Center and Dugger Park. Spearheaded by the Medford Department of Conservation and Recreation, highlights of the scheduled work include a new crosswalk, new walkways, reworked parking, a new pick and drop off area behind the community center, and more.

Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn gave credit to Sen. Patricia Jehlen and Representative Sean Garballey for supporting the project and helping secure state earmarks to fund it.

“It has taken many years of advocacy and hard work to get this project off the ground but we’re finally here and are able to make such critical safety improvements at one of our most frequented parks and community spaces,” Lungo-Koehn said.

The two-hour event will take place behind the community center at 11 a.m., where some of the project’s most notable work will be conducted.
