Medford Declares Snow Emergency Ahead Of Blizzard
A potentially record-setting blizzard is on its way to Massachusetts this weekend.
MEDFORD, MA — Medford is declaring a snow emergency Friday night ahead of a potentially record-setting blizzard this weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning from coastal Massachusetts and the Cape to the I-495/I-95 corridor. The latest forecasts call for 18-24 inches of snow to fall overnight Friday until Sunday morning.
The snow emergency and parking restrictions will go into effect at 10 p.m. The DPW yard will not accept recycling drop-offs on Saturday due to the storm.

- On secondary roads, parking is allowed on the ODD side of the street only. Cars parked on the even side of the street during snow emergencies will be ticketed and towed. This is to allow plows to access the street. Cars parked on the even side will be ticketed and towed during snow emergencies.
- Using traffic cones to save parking spaces on the street is not allowed and should be brought inside. If cones are on the street, crews will remove them.
- On main arterial streets (see list below), there is NO PARKING ANYTIME during a snow emergency. Signs are posted on those streets. Cars parked on main arterials during snow emergencies will be ticketed and towed. During snow emergencies, residents of main arteries can park on secondary roads, even if they are permit only, as the resident parking regulations are temporarily lifted during emergencies. Shoveling Information
- Per City Ordinance, residents must shovel their sidewalks within 6 daylight hours of the end of a snowstorm. Failure to do so may result in fines.
- Make sure to clear openings at corners, crosswalks, curb cuts, bus stops and fire hydrants so pedestrians and emergency personnel can access areas efficiently.
- DO NOT shovel snow or ice into the street.
