MEDFORD, MA — The city has secured a new grant to fund electric vehicle charging stations, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced Tuesday.

The money was granted through the state’s Clean Energy Center’s On-Street Charging Program. Medford is currently in the “project implementation” phase of the program, and charging stations are slated to be installed at Magoun Park, Barry Park, Morrison Park, and one other location that has yet to be determined. The Level 2 charging stations take approximately three to four hours to charge a vehicle.

Based on a survey conducted by Medford this summer, 32% of respondents said they would purchase an electric vehicle if a charging station was available close to their homes.

“While we already have 11 level 2 charging stations in parking lots around the city, these on-street solutions will be a game-changer for residents looking to make the switch to electric vehicles,” Lungo-Koehn said in a statement.
