Medford Officer Honored By State For Community Service

Jose Torres was recognized by the Massachusetts Latino Police Officers Association.

MEDFORD, MA — A police officer was honored with a special recognition for his community service on Wednesday.

Officer Jose Torres was named a 2025 Community Service Honoree by the Massachusetts Latino Police Officers for his local through and beyond his job. In his four years as a member of the Medford PD, the Salvadoran-American has participated in numerous community activities such as National Night Out, Junior Police Academy, Holiday Toy Drive, Coffee with a Cop, Community Inclusion Day, and more. The department also described Torres as a bridge between the department and Medford’ Spanish-speaking residents due to his bilingual ability. One highlight of his current work as an officer is being a member of the Defensive Tactics Team.

“(Torres) is admired through the department for his unwavering reliability, his willingness to volunteer for any assignment, and the joy he brings to any interaction,” Medford Police Lieutenant Rory Lockowitz said. “Whether working a 16-hour shift, covering a late-night detail, or responding to a call at 3 a.m., he does so with a smile, an impeccable uniform, and the highest level of professionalism.”
