Medford Police Captain Retires After Decorated Career

James Benoit retired as a Captain.

MEDFORD, MA — The police department celebrated the retirement of a Captain after 28 years of service.

James Benoit joined the department in the summer of 1997 after briefly working in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. After being promoted to Sargent in 2016, Benoit quickly rose through the other ranks becoming Lieutenant in 2020 and finally Captain in 2023.
His career also includes serving as the Commanding Officer of the Bureau of Professional Standards, Development, and Training.

“Captain Benoit has served our community with unwavering commitment, honor, and distinction in every capacity,” the department said in a joint statement. “We are deeply grateful for his 28 years of dedication to our City and the Medford Police Department.”
