Medford Police Mourn Death Of Former Lieutenant
Lawrence Groves served many roles in his decorated 35-year career with Medford police.
MEDFORD, MA — The police department announced the death of a former high-ranking officer recently.
Lieutenant Larry Groves died on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the age of 81. He spent 35 years serving the city of Medford as a police officer from 1972 to 2007. It did not take Groves long to rise through the ranks of the department as he was promoted to Sergeant in 1983, followed by another promotion to Lieutenant just three years later.
Before coming to Medford, the United States Marine veteran also worked for the Wakefield Police Department and South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Throughout his distinguished career, he (Groves) served our community with honor, integrity, and leadership. He was also the longtime commander of the Medford Police Honor Guard, a role that reflected his deep commitment to ceremony, tradition, and the highest standards of professionalism,” the department said in a statement. “We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and express our gratitude for his many years of service.”
