Medford Postpones Middle School, Before/After School Lotteries
School officials are exploring ways to conduct virtual lotteries for middle school and before/after school selection.
MEDFORD, MA — Medford has postponed the Middle School Lottery and Before/After School Lottery in light of Gov. Baker's two-week stay-at-home advisory, issued March 23. The Middle School Lottery, originally scheduled for Thursday, March 26, will be postponed until further notice.
"We understand that Grade 5 students and their families are eagerly awaiting their middle school assignments for the 2020-2021 school year and want to assure them that the drawing will occur in the near future," the Medford Public Schools said in a statement. "As an option, we are currently exploring ways in which the lottery can be conducted virtually."
In 2019, the School Committee unanimously approved a middle school lottery system in an effort to balance the racial and socioeconomic differences between the Andrews Middle School and the McGlynn Middle School.
