Medford Recognized For Its Recycling Efforts

The city was the one community selected by the Northeast Recycling Council.

MEDFORD, MA — The city has won the 2025 Environmental Leadership Award for Outstanding Community from the Northeast Recycling Council.

The Council recognizes one community, organization, and individual annually for their recycling efforts and innovations. This is the ninth year of the awards and the Environmental Leadership Awards Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn cited the curbside composting program as a driving force that led to Medford receiving the honor.

“This award shows that the work we’re doing in both composting and recycling is having real, transformative effects on how our community thinks about waste and the steps we’re taking to create a more sustainable environment for the future,” Lungo-Koehn said. “We are honored to be recognized by the Northeast Recycling Council for these efforts.”
