MEDFORD, MA — The city has been named one of the 30 “best up-and-coming” of its kind in the country by HGTV.

The home and garden cable network first aired in 1994, and has only increased in popularity in the three decades since. In the list published online, Medford is in the 29th spot and is the only Massachusetts community on it. HGTV cites the recent exponential growth in population, accessibility to numerous MBTA options, presence of the Mystic River, proximity to Boston, and artistic opportunities through the Chevalier Theatre and Tufts University as the reasons why it deserves to be mentioned.
