Medford resident Elizabeth Maddock Dillon is running to raise money for the Joslin Diabetes Center.

MEDFORD, MA — Medford resident and Northeastern University Professor Elizabeth Maddock Dillon is running the 2022 Boston Marathon to raise money for the Joslin Diabetes Center, the world's largest diabetes research center, diabetes clinic, and provider of diabetes education
Dillon, 59, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 47 and became a patient of Joslin Diabetes Center. This will be her first marathon ever after spending months training with the Tufts University marathon team.
“Diabetes affects so many people yet it is often not seen. I like the idea of not letting it hold me back,” Dillon said in a statement. “I wish other people around the world could get the level of care I am able to receive from Joslin.”

Although this is her first year running, Dillon has deep ties to the Boston Marathon and its effects on the community. After the 2013 Marathon Bombings, Dillon was a founder of the digital archive titled “Our Marathon,” a crowdsourced collection of pictures, videos, stories, and social media related to the tragic events.
“One way to address the trauma is to invite people to share their stories,” said Dillon in a statement. “'Our marathon’ is meant to regain the story of the marathon and bring it back to the community.”
