Medford School Going Remote Until Holiday Break

District officials said there was a "strong possibility" of in-person transmission among school staff, many of whom are in quarantine.

MEDFORD, MA — One Medford school will continue remote learning until the holiday break due to the amount of staff members in quarantine, district officials said. In a letter to families Wednesday, Superintendent Marice Edouard-Vincent said there was a "strong possibility" of in-person transmission of the coronavirus among some staff members at the Brooks Elementary School.

"The possibility of in-school transmission among Brooks staff, coupled with the total number of Brooks personnel who have been directed to either quarantine or isolate (which has exceeded 20 Brooks staff members over the last two weeks and now includes both of the school's two administrators), has necessitated the transition to full remote learning for all Brooks' students until after the upcoming holiday recess," Edouard-Vincent wrote.

The superintendent said there continues to be no evidence of in-person transmission.

"I know how frustrating this may feel given the strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols that members of the community have exhibited since returning to school this year," Edouard-Vincent wrote.

Medford schools will have a "full remote" day Friday due to the snow, and the rest of the district will return to hybrid instruction Monday. The district will release a timeline for in-person instruction at all schools next week.
