Medford Selects 6 'Shared Streets' For 2021
The program designates certain streets as car-free, except for local traffic and emergency vehicles, to promote pedestrian and bicycle use.
MEDFORD, MA — Six Medford streets have been selected for the 2021 Residential Shared Streets program.
City staff selected Bradshaw Street, Burbank Road, Golden Avenue (from Willis to Main), Logan Avenue, Stearns Avenue, and Tontine Street to have Shared Street elements installed from August to November.
The choices are designed to spread the program throughout the city, and residents are encouraged to visit nearby Shared Streets to walk, ride their bikes and enjoy the outdoors.

The Shared Streets program installs temporary interventions with cones and signs to give people more space to safely travel around their neighborhoods without a car. Local traffic, deliveries, and emergency vehicles will still have access to the street, but these barriers look to discourage cut through-traffic and prioritize the safe use of streets for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The program includes signs at the entrance to selected streets; no permanent or temporary furniture will be added to the street during the program.
