Medford Superintendent Wishes Families A Blessed Holiday Season
A holiday message from Superintendent Marice Edouard-Vincent.
MEDFORD, MA — The following letter was submitted by Medford Superintendent of Schools Marice Edouard-Vincent.
Season’s Greetings Mustang Families:
As we leave for our winter break, I am writing today to wish you and your loved ones a blessed holiday season. 2020 has been a year of great loss and times have been difficult for so many members of the Medford community. We all know now that health is the greatest gift of all this year and regardless of which holidays you celebrate, this vacation break will hopefully allow all of us to rest, restore and cherish time spent with our families.

2020 brought with it, not only the pandemic, but also isolation, food insecurity and mass unemployment as well as marches for racial equity. It forced us to change the typical ways we lived our lives. The pandemic brought to the forefront many of society’s ills, especially the mistreatment of people of color across the nation. One of my many goals for the new year will be to continue to foster anti-racism and anti-bias work through the continued collaboration with the Medford Public Schools' Racial Equity Task Force composed of students, staff, parents and other community partners. It is long overdue and must be a priority. Medford is blessed by its diversity, and we all have much to contribute to the fight for equal rights for all in our country.
As we anxiously await the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine, we are reminded of the importance of science and the value of education to advance the pipeline in health care.
We thank the members of Mustang Nation who work in the medical field as well as in bio-tech and public health to save lives this year and every year. It may be months before we all receive this vaccine, therefore, we must continue to follow all the safety protocols. I am so proud of our students who have worked so hard to wear masks, socially distance and wash their hands often and am committed to maintaining these safety protocols and testing our students and staff when they return to school in January.
