Medford Wants Input For Memorial Project At Riverbend Park

The city is hosting a walking tour to scout a location fora potential memorial for victims of COVID-19.

MEDFORD, MA — The Department of Planning, Development, and Sustainability is hosting a walking tour on Saturday, Nov. 23 to discuss the potential location of a COVID-19 Memorial Grave at Riverbend Park.

The tour will begin at 11 a.m. at the rear parking lot of the McGlynn Elementary School on 3002 Mystic Valley Pkwy. City officials are seeking design and location input from attending residents
According to the Center for Disease Control, more than 1.2 million people have died from COVID-related illness since March 2020. Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn emphasized how important she feels it is to continue to support local families who have been impacted by the illness.

“The effects of the pandemic are still being felt which is why recognizing those who are no longer with us and supporting each other is so important,” Lungo-Koehn said in a press release.

TreesMedford, a group of resident volunteers who advocate for the care of Medford trees through work with the Tree Warden, first proposed the idea of a memorial grove. The grove’s design will be funded through Community Preservation Act funds.
