Medford's History To Be Stored In A Digital Database

The City Council approved a five-year contract between the library and a company to construct a digital database for its local history.

MEDFORD, MA — The City Council voted unanimously to approve a five-year contract with a company to build a digital asset management database to virtually store the city’s local history during its most recent meeting.

The library is partnering with Adam Matthew Ltd. to continuously add things such as print materials, audiovisual content, and oral history recordings to the database that will be able to be accessed remotely by residents, according to Medford Library Director Barbara Kerr.

“I think that there are a lot of stories in these still analog materials that will be so positive for Medford residents and nonresidents who visit the library and people like us who are investigating the city just to be able to find these materials in various formats,” Council Vice President Kit Collins said.
