New Children’s Center Opening in Former Isis Space

The center will house three distinct businesses in Arlington Center.

Isis Parenting’s Arlington Center landlord has stayed true to his word.

After Isis Parenting abruptly closed in January, Erik Kondo, who owns the building at 397 Mass. Ave. in Arlington Center, said he would be seeking a “community centered tenant” to fill the space.

On Tuesday morning, the Yak Academy, which runs play-based language immersion classes and preschool for children, ages 1-10, announced that it will be moving in, along with H2K: Happy Healthy Kids Fitness, a kids gym, and Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston, which will run classes for parents with newborns through age 5.

The three businesses will make up the new children’s center, Ready, Set, Kids!, which is expected to open just after Labor Day of this year.

The Yak Academy will also have Mom & Me classes and after-school classes, offering Spanish, French and Mandarin, according to a release from the company. The languages will be taught through songs, games, arts and crafts.

Emily Hammond will serve as the director of Yak Academy and the overall center. The idea for Ready, Set, Kids! developed from conversations between Hammond and Kondo, according to the release.

H2K will offer everything from kids kickboxing to Zumba, yoga for moms and babies, toddlers and teens. It will also be able to host birthday parties.

Jewish Community Centers, which is based in Newton, will have a variety of classes and programs, including pre- and post-natal parent workshops, lactation support, infant-feeding support and weekly drop-ins.

There will be open house events Thursday, Sept. 4, 4-7 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 6, noon to 3 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 7, noon to 3 p.m., which will be open to the public.

Isis Parenting, which had a children’s store and parenting classes, had been in Arlington Center since 2006. It also had locations in Boston’s Prudential Center, Needham and Hanover, as well as in the Atlanta and Dallas/Fort Worth areas.
