Suspect in Medford Library Child Porn Viewing Case Gets Second Chance at Bail

James Judge allegedly violated his bail last week, but was released again Monday.

A man accused of viewing child pornography at Medford Public Library was given a second chance at bail after allegedly violating release conditions, according to court filings.

James Judge, 57, of Medford was arrested for a second time last Thursday after he was spotted at Malden Public Library by a library employee on Wednesday, according to police reports. He spent the weekend in jail, but was ordered released by a district court judge following a hearing Monday, according to court records.

Judge was originally arrested in May on charges alleging he viewed child pornography on a computer at Medford Public Library. His bail conditions included he stay away from children, schools and libraries, and that he be subject to GPS monitoring, according to court records.

Last Wednesday afternoon, a Malden library worker called police to report that Judge was in the library and she was aware of the recent charges against him, according to a Malden police report. Malden police Officer Jack Lanni responded to the library to find Judge in the east facing side of the library, near a group of school children, according to a filing by state prosecutors.

"(Judge) did not seem to have a specific reason for being at the library at that time," the filing said.

Malden police notified authorties in Medford of the incident, and Medford police Officer Patrick MacGillivray arrested Judge at his Fellsway West home Thursday afternoon for violating bail, according to a police report.

Judge was jailed over the weekend following an preliminary hearing in front of a clerk magistrate Friday, but he was granted surety bail by District Court Judge Maurice Flynn after a hearing on Monday, according to court records.

His bail conditions again include that he stay away from children, libraries and schools, according to court records.

He was arraigned May 15, where he was ordered released on $1,000 bail under the conditions that he stay away from children, schools, parks, libraries and day care centers, and be subject to GPS monitoring, according to court records.

His next hearing is slated for later this month.
