Since Friday, June 17, trains passing over High and Canal Streets have sounded their horns.

The city had its status as a quiet zone revoked by the Federal Railroad Administration after it failed to come in compliance with a federal law that was finalized in 2005.

City officials left a meeting last Wednesday thinking they had come to an agreement with the FRA and Massachusetts Bay Commuter Rail to have two more weeks to get in compliance. But the MBTA received a letter Friday instructing them to have trains sound their horns.
