Week in Review: Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested, Elizabeth Warren in Medford, 'The Baby's Not Waiting'

An alleged bank robber was spotted by the teller he robbed as they both waited in line at Dunkin' Donuts in Medford Square Wednesday morning, according to a police report. The run-in occurred only two days after the robbery and just down the street from the Member's Plus Credit Union where it occurred. Jason Souza, 29, of Charlestown was arrested on a warrant charge of unarmed robbery Thursday, according to court records. Police believe Souza robbed the Members Plus Credit Union in Medford Square Monday and the Sovereign Bank on Rutherford Avenue in Charlestown Tuesday.
‘The Baby’s Not Waiting’: Medford Firefighters, Ambulance Crew Deliver Baby En Route to Hospital: The soon-to-be mother's contractions were only a few minutes apart, and Medford fire Captain Tom Brennan thought there was a good chance the baby wouldn't wait until they arrived at Massachusetts General Hospital. "I knew if we made it we’d be lucky," Brennan said Wednesday. They didn't get very far -- only the Fellsway -- when the paramedics told Brennan to stop the ambulance. “They said, ‘the baby’s not waiting,’" Brennan said. "So I stopped the ambulance, got dad out of the front and we rolled up our sleeves and went to work."
The Florida woman who drove the car that killed a pregnant Medford woman earlier this year was arrested Wednesday after police found her blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit at the time of the crash, according to news reports. Rosa Maria Rivera-Kim, 34, of Plantation, Fla., turned herself into police Wednesday afternoon on charges of driving under the influence - manslaughter with impairment, driving under the influence - manslaughter with an unlawful blood alcohol level, and driving under the influence for property damage, according to Broward Country Sheriff's Department records.

Elizabeth Warren Visits Medford, Says Education 'Not a Priority' for Scott Brown and Republicans: Elizabeth Warren made a campaign stop in Medford Wednesday, where she chatted with college students about loans and took a jab at Scott Brown within a stone's throw of his alma mater. Sitting with a group of college students, she called out Brown for voting against a Democrat-sponsored bill in the Senate Tuesday that would freeze Stafford student loan interest rates. “I see this question about Scott Brown voting with all the Republicans to double the interest rate on student loans as just a piece of a larger picture in which support for education is not a priority," Warren said over an iced coffee, "and instead, what substitutes for that is a world in which he votes to protect oil subsidies, hedge fund breaks and special agreements for multi-national corporations.”
Residents Form Union To Fight 22%-58% Rent Hikes: Tenants in Medford and Malden found every renter's nightmare slipped under their doors last week: a notice their rents will increase anywhere from 22 percent to 58 percent next month, with just two weeks to decide whether to accept the new agreement. But residents say they won't take the hikes without a fight, and a majority of the tenants have formed a union – Malden Tenants United – to prevent what they call unreasonable increases in a sluggish economy.
