Week in Review: Child Porn Arrest at Library, Proposed New Apartment Complex, Housing Authority

A Medford man used a computer at the public library to view and print pornographic images of young boys, according to a police report. James Judge, 57, of 106 Fellsway West was arrested Monday at Medford Public Library on charges of distributing material of a child in the nude, distributing material of a child in a sexual act and possession of child pornography, according to court records. A group of young library patrons spotted Judge looking at naked pictures of young boys on a computer in the back of the library and told Assistant Librarian Barbara Kerr about 5 p.m Monday, according to a police report written by Officer Robin Doherty.

The planning agency responsible for mapping out transportation projects in the greater Boston area envisions over $720 million being spent on the Green Line Extension by 2016, according to a recent report. A draft version of the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization's Transportation Improvement Program report, released earlier this month, outlines the projected spending on the extension from 2013 to 2016. The project plans to extend the MBTA's Green Line from Lechmere station in Cambridge to the intersection of Boston Avenue and College Avenue in Medford, with six stations in between. The report estimates the project should have $79.3 million in funding in 2013, $94.9 million in 2014, $235.8 in 2015 and about $310 million in 2016.

The Medford Housing Authority worked out an agreement for its Executive Director Robert Covelle to resign. The Boston Globe reported that Covelle will receive three months severance, about $31,500.

A development company is looking to build a 163-unit apartment complex near Meadow Glen Mall on the Mystic Valley Parkway, according to Medford's Office of Community Development. Criterion Development has proposed the 4-story complex, which would include a ground floor parking garage, two court yards and a "club house" at 3780 Mystic Valley Parkway, Medford's Director of Community Development Lauren DiLorenzo said Tuesday. The site is currently unused, DiLorenzo said, but it was formerly the location of a Sentry car dealership.

A man wanted in connection to a stabbing earlier in May was arrested Thursday after a Medford Police Officer spotted him boarding a bus in South Medford, police said. Christopher Linton, 18, of 2 Sanger St. was wanted on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for allegedly stabbing a person he lived with on May 7 with a knife, according to a press release from police Lt. Paul Covino. Police believe Linton was aware of the warrant and had been staying in Boston to avoid arrest since the incident, the press release said.
