5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 12

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Monday is Patriot's Day, which is a holiday in Massachusetts. Milford town offices will be closed.

2. Monday is also the 116th running of the Boston Marathon, which begins in Hopkinton. Some street closures in Hopkinton may affect Milford. Closures begin at 7:30 a.m. and should be lifted by 1 p.m.

3. The Milford Board of Selectmen's meeting on Monday, featuring a presentation by the executive of Foxwoods Resort Casino, on a proposed Milford casino, is now on YouTube. It was filmed by Milford TV.

4. Save the date: the district-wide Milford Public Schools Art Show will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 9. Held at the Milford High School gallery hall, the event will feature music by students and is produced by the Visual Arts Department.

5. The town of Milford is looking for a department clerk in the Assessor's Office. Candidates should apply by April 19. The position is 35 hours a week and the pay is $18.29 to $23.51 (under negotiation).
