5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 2

Have you seen the Milford Youth Center version of the Harlem Shake?

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Milford's Youth Center has an after-school program that draws 100 or more children a day. One fun thing recently accomplished: the kids gathered together to shoot a video of the Harlem Shake and it's now on YouTube. Check it out.

2. An affordable rabies clinic for cats and dogs will be held this Saturday. The towns of Milford and Hopedale boards of health will sponsor the clinic from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Hopedale Highway Department, 7 Depot St., Hopedale. Dogs will be vaccinated from 1:30 to 2:20 p.m. Cats will be vaccinated from 2:30 to 3 p.m. The cost is $15 per animal. Dogs must be leashed and cats must be in a carrier.

3. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has placed on its website the draft regulations for final casino applications. A public hearing will be scheduled May 3, but before then, people can submit comments in writing. Submit an email to mgccomments@state.ma.us with ‘draft regulations comment’ in the subject line.”  Please be certain to identify in your comments the section number of the regulation for which you are commenting.

4. Today is Word Autism Day, which aims to increase people’s awareness about individuals, especially children, who have autism. The Milford Public Schools Special Education Department will observe the day after-school at the SenseAbility Gym, at 8 Charles View Road, Hopedale. This specialty facility serves special needs children in the Milford area. [See attached PDF]

5. Friends of the Milford Upper Charles Trail will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Milford Senior Center. The agenda includes discussion of Annual Earth Day and Spring Clean-up, scheduled for April 20.
