5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 13

The town of Milford is looking for seasonal workers, for spring and summer jobs.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Looking for a summer job? Milford is hiring. The town Parks Department is looking for seasonal laborers, who will earn $10.26/hour, and permanent part-time laborers, who will earn $15.71/hour. Also, this summer, a pool manager, an assistant pool manager and lifeguards. And the town's Highway Department also needs summer help. The department has five positions for seasonal laborers, who will earn $10.26 an hour. These positions would be for a 40-hour work week. Apply by April 1 for the Highway Department slots. 2. Midtown Family Fitness is participating this weekend in Pedal to End Cancer, a Spin-a-thon event at the fitness center on Sumner Street that will take place from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. Want to help? Participate by signing up at the center for $25 (you don't have to be a member) or online at www.pedaltoendcancer.org. (Note: The online site lists March 3 as the date, but Midtown is doing it Saturday. The Midtown team is listed under the teams heading.)

3. Thanks to Yanks has rescheduled its magic show for children and families to Sunday. The new date was made necessary when weather forced the cancellation of the original date. The show starts at 2 p.m. at Stacy Middle School and doors open at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are free, but must be reserved by Friday. Email mshain@charlesriverbank.com.

4. The Milford Town Library is seeking a part-time, permanent circulation clerk. The position details can be seen here. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Monday.

5. Sen. Richard T. Moore will speak on Monday about the recently enacted, first-in-the-nation health care cost containment and payment reform law, and provide an overview of its impact on the greater-Milford area. The speaking event is at the Milford Regional Medical Center from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the cafeteria.
