5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 14
Two Milford residents, Judi Miller and Nancy Derderian, were recognized recently for their efforts to help raise $200,000 for cancer treatment and research.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.
1. Judi Miller and Nancy Derderian of Milford were among the volunteers recognized recently by the Jimmy Fund, for a commitment to organizing golf tournaments that rais funds for adult and pediatric cancer care and research. Miller and Derderian, together with Bob Brack of Concord, organized the Joan H. Brack Memorial Golf Tournament at the Stowe Acres Country Club in Stowe, which raised $200,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
2. A Texas Hold 'Em tournament, adult poker, will be held Friday at the Hoboken Citizens Club to help raise funds for the Milford High School cheerleaders. The varsity team is heading to national competition in Orlando. The cost to play is $50, with a $20 side, smaller game if enough interest. See the event listing for more details.

3. Lola's Helping Hands is gearing up for a fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis, on behalf of a young Milford mother, Laurie Stanley (aka Lola), who is battling the disease. This year, the fundraiser will be at TD's Pub on March 23, and businesses and individuals are helping to raise funds for the Lola's Helping Hands MS Walk team by donating gift baskets and raffle prizes. 4. Milford High School graduate Chris Colabello is playing for Italy this year, and was the subject of a Boston Globe report on the World Baseball Classic second-round game Tuesday. Colabello, a graduate of Milford High and Assumption College, previously played seven seasons in the independent CanAm League.

5. Arts in Bloom, a juried art exhibition in Hopkinton that will take place in May, is issuing a call for art submissions. All 2D media including photography will be accepted for consideration. See the announcement for more details.
