5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 18

Milford Selectmen tonight will hear a presentation from casino opponents, and will be asked to transfer a liquor license for the Crystal Room function hall.

1. . But that plan has been changed, and it will now continue as a function hall. Milford Selectmen on Monday will be asked to transfer the existing all-alcohol license from The Krystal Room to the new Crystal Room. Keith Usher of Mendon will serve as corporation president and treasurer, and Andrew Noyes of Glocester, RI as secretary. The manager will be Timothy Niro.

2. But beginning at 4 p.m., the group is encouraging supporters to rally outside Milford Town Hall and sign a petition that will be presented to selectmen.

3. Milford Police Chief Thomas O'Loughlin has announced the promotion of police officer Michael Pasacane to the rank of sergeant. Pasacane has served as an officer for 26 years in Milford and was most recently the licensing officer. He takes the position left by Sgt. Michael Pighetti, who retired on Feb. 20 after 32 years.

4. Another winter storm will arrive in Massachusetts Tuesday, beginning in the early morning hours and continuing through much of the day. The early forecasts are calling for 6 or more inches of snow in the Milford area, and a period of icing.

5. UPDATE: This event has been cancelled due to the anticipated storm Tuesday: State Sen. Richard Moore (D-Uxbridge) will host a session Tuesday at the Milford Town Library on planning for higher education.
