Street sweeping starts next week in Milford.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.
1. Now that the winter is over, the focus of the Milford Highway Department turns to spring cleaning. Street-sweepers and sidewalk sweepers will start moving around town next week.
2. Milford TV has a state-of-the-art community television studio, but it also has an art gallery. The Blackstone Valley Art Association is now displaying "Artful Animals" through April 30, featuring primarily the artwork of Carolyn Letvin and Elizabeth Havens. An artist reception for them will be 6 to 8 p.m. on April 18.

3. Do you have a favorite family recipe that's in need of being "slenderized?" "Grandmother's Kitchen," a free program at allows participants to adapt a favorite recipe and make it heart-healthy and diabetes friendly. Bring the recipe. Class starts at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and is free, but registration is requested. Visit milfordregional.org or call (508) 422-2206.
4. Milford has two openings on its Capital Improvement Committee. Anyone interested in becoming a member should fill out a Talent Bank Application for appointment at the selectmen's office at Milford Town Hall.

5. If you haven't registered to vote yet, and want to participate in the upcoming Senate primary election, and the town election (which are happening on the same date: April 30), you have just a few weeks. The deadline to register to vote is April 10.
