Annual Memorial Day Parade Held in Milford

The parade featuring representatives of several services organizations will be held May 30.

It has been announced by Milford Veterans Agent, John A. Pilla, that the Annual Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 30, 2016.

Assembly of divisions will take place at 9:30 a.m. in the Stop & Shop parking lot adjacent to the '99 restaurant. Step-off will be at 10:00 a.m.

The parade will be led by Grand Marshal Captain Richard G. McGrath currently assigned to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland as a permanent military professor in the Mathematics Department and he serves as the Associate Dean of the Mathematics and Science Division.

Upon leaving the assembly area, the parade will march up East Main Street to the Calzone Park where a brief ceremony will take place. It will then continue up Main Street to Draper Memorial Park where a ceremony along with speakers will take place. Master of Ceremonies will be Gail (Arcudi) Reichert, a Navy veteran. In case of inclement weather and the need to cancel the parade, an announcement will be made by WMRC and the speaking program will be held a the Italian/American War Veterans Post on Hayward Field at 10:00 a.m.

Taking part in the parade will be members of the various service organizations such as the Disabled American Veterans; American Legion and Auxillary; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Italian American War Veterans; local Town Officials, State Legislators, and members of both the Police and Fire Departments. Also planning to march will be members of the Montgomery Lodge of Masons. Music will be provided by both the Milford High School Band and the Milford Middle School Band and officer Russell Poissant. Also participating in the parade will be the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts along with their parents and leaders.
