Cub Scouts Compete in Pinewood Derby

Three local troops brought their pinewood derby cars to a town race Saturday.

The classic car race for Cub Scouts, the Pinewood Derby, played out Saturday in front of several dozen parents, grandparents and other family members at the Maspenock Rod & Gun Club.

Each of the cars, made of pinewood, can weigh no more than 5 ounces and has to fit into a small box used at the weigh-in. The boys can decorate their cars however they like, but they can only use the graphite lubricant that comes in the kit.

After a day of racing, Pack 32 was declared the winner, with the fastest average time of all entrants.
