'It's A Mess Down There': Milford's Health Inspections
Milford's health department conducted multiple inspections from May and June.

MILFORD, MA—The following inspections were supplied by the Milford Board of Health. The notes are that of the Milford Health Department:
Dollar General 161 E. Main St. 5-25-18 No violations here.
Chim Thai 196 E. Main St. 5-25-18 Cover one tray of food in the Turbo Air freezer, and need two new fry baskets due to excessive wear of the old ones.

Milford Pizza Palace 8 Beach St. 5-23-18 Clean and sanitize the manual can opener the housing and the bit, clean under the three bay sink and repair the baseboard, and clean the base of the Delfield cooler.

Target 250 Fortune Blvd. 5-21-18 One violation bag of carrots cannot be stored on the floor.
Starbucks (inside Target) 250 Fortune Blvd. Clean the inside of the oven needs a good scrubbing.
Papa Gino’s 42 Cape Rd. 5-17-18 Clean interior of the stainless steel draw way in the back by the prep sink, sweep out ice chips in the walk in freezer, slow time of day appetizers should be covered, need hot water at both hand sinks and the hand sink near the flat top has a bad leak and needs to be repaired, flat top grill also needs to be cleaned. Critical violation (hot water and leak corrected the next day including all violations).
Nelly’s Sandwich Shop 113 central St. 5-17-18 Clean the burner wells at the stove, and clean and sanitize the manual can opener.
Panera Bread 91 Medway Rd. 5-17-18 Trash to be emptied before it piles up atr the back door, and store plastic utensils so that handles all face the user.
La Quinta 24 Beaver St. 5-16-18 no violations here.
Family Conv. Mini Mart 96 Main St. 6-6-18 Need 4 thermometers in two chest freezers and two coolers. No other violations here. Small ethnic food store.
Pizza 85 130 Cedar St. 6-6-18 One violation here. Clean out and disinfect the mop sink.
Pizza Chef 179 Main St. 6-6-18 Violations here include the following. Cardboard used to line one shelf of wire rack storage shelf where dry goods is stored needs to be changed, fold down tightly bags of flour in storage, and need to breakdown clean and sanitize the food slicer where food debris remains.
Central Trattoria 89 Main St. 6-5-18 Violations here include the following. Bag of onions cannot be stored on the floor in the walk in cooler, clean the grates for 10 burner stove top, clean the back wall and concrete edge behind the prep coolers.
Dollar Tree 146 S. Main St. 6-5-18 Violations here include orderly safe storage of boxes of food in the walk in freezer, and back area dry goods storage area needs orderly storage also.
C.V.S. 137 S. Main St. 6-5-18 One violation. Need a thermometer in the dairy cooler.
Chipotle 128 Medway Rd. 6-4-18 Soiled cloths cannot be stored in contact with bags of onions in dry goods storage area, both flat top grills large one and small one need a good scrubbing before they get beyond effective through cleaning.
Edible Arrangements 196 E. Main St. 6-4-18 No violations here.
First Unitarian Church 23 Pine St. Rubber floor mats next to the stove needs to be cleaned food debris in the crevices.
Dollar Tree 122 Medway Rd. 5-30-18 Need a thermometer in the ice cream chest freezer, foods in cardboard boxes cannot be stored on the floor in the walk in freezer, and back storage room is in a state of disarray and needs to be put back in order, clean sanitize and disinfect both restrooms.
Milford Senior Center 60 N. Bow St. 5-30-18 3 bay sinks drains too slowly. Plumbing company service without success second plumbing contractor called.
Thai Pepper 178 E. Main St. 5-18-18 Violations here include the following. Clean surface area of the wok station, clean areas where the table is near the wok station this means remove the table and paper covering clean the table really good and the floor and wall area everywhere it can be reached, interior of oven being used for storage still needs to be cleaned due to food debris in cracks and crevices, there is some sort of wood structure being used to store spices that is heavily soiled it is dirty and impossible to clean need something better for storage that can be cleaned correctly, “True” cooler needs all exposed surfaces cleaned including hinges front interior edge shows neglect of these areas, interior of stand-alone freezer also needs cleaning especially at the base due to food debris, and clean both exterior door panels of the prep cooler. Re-inspection scheduled. Re-inspected 5-25-18 violations corrected.

Lowes 40 Fortune Blvd 6-8-18 No Violations here.
Milford Mandarin 196 E. Main St. 6-11-18 Violations here include the following. Steel tables used for the rice cookers need to be cleaned (hot held rice in these cookers holding temps of 145 degrees), food slicer needs to be broken down further cleaned and sanitized, several pails of food not covered in the walk in cooler also do not stack pails of food on top of partially covered food pails, disposal area can be better maintained including changing out (replacing) the grease container, put the ice scoop in the holder for the ice machine, in the pantry area rice bags need to be closed and stored off the floor, cover pails of food stored in the beer cooler, store ice scoop in a protected manner at the bar, clean and wipe down the door guides at the storage areas behind the sushi area bar and a critical violation involved needing hotter hot water in the women’s rest room. This requires immediate next day correction. Re-inspected the next day and hot water was restored. Second re-inspection scheduled for remaining violations. Re-inspected 6-18-18 and found all remaining violations corrected.
Rosa’s Villa 189 West St. 6-8-18 Violations here include the following. Front screen door does not close nearly tight enough which could allow for pest or insects to enter the restaurant, in the dry goods storage room remove all the stored foods clean the shelves and replace cardboard if needed then stock food again, need paper towel for the hand sink, clean shelving and the cooling unit inside the walk in cooler (food products tested in this cooler holding safe temps but unit needs cleaning, clean the floor under the3 bay sink to the stainless steel work area to the wall, it’s a mess under there, clean the base and change the cardboard in the 2 door cooler, and no one is wearing a hair restraint of any kind. A re-inspection is scheduled. Re-inspected 6-15-18 and found violations corrected.
Gene’s Variety 80 Water St. 6-11-18 Violations here include the following. Basement ice machine put the ice scoop in the bag to protect it from dust and dirt contamination and clean the mold and mildew from the front steel edge and the inside white plastic shield, in the walk in freezer store food in cardboard boxes off the floor, clean interior of the Turbo Fan convection oven, clean door panels for the 2 door prep cooler (food products in this cooler Pepperoni) holding safe temp., clean the splash wall in the upstairs kitchen esp. near the electrical outlets where food splash is more evident, clean and sanitize the blue compartment tray used to store silverware behind the customer service area, clean and wipe thoroughly all the shelving behind the customer service area and where employees work, and clean the rear exterior or the all three deli cases where employees are this mean door guides and surface areas. A re-inspection is scheduled. Re-inspect 6-19 and found all violations corrected.
Oliva’s Catering 83-85 E. Main St. 6-15-18 Violations here include the following. Food product (produce) cannot be stored on the floor inside the first outside walk in cooler, in the outside dry goods storage unit there is equipment that appears no longer in use and the area they are stored in cleaned equip not used is to be disposed of and that area maintained for actual use, in the second outside walk in chicken cannot be stored on the floor, inside the fan unit directly above canned food strage rack needs to be cleaned all of dust and debris, anyone working with food including chefs are to wear protective hair restraints, small 4 burner stove top needs scrubbing/cleaning, small storage area down by the fire extinguisher and electrical panels needs to be put in some order, floor area wall area all around the dish machine needs a good power washing. A re-inspection is scheduled. Re-inspection conducted and violations found corrected.
Prezo’s 229.5 E. Main St. 6-18-18 Violations here include the following. In the outside walk in cooler a couple of trays of food not covered, need a thermometer inside both outside walk in units, also need to police the exterior of this area due to paper litter and other debris, inside the walk in freezer near the dish machine needs greater in storage of food and the floor swept out due to paper debris and ice chips, do not store ice scoop bucket inside the small “Scottsman” ice machine, and in the larger ice machine clean the white shield inside the machine and the exterior outer steel edge, small container of uncovered food in the small two door prep cooler at the main line, small 4 burner stove top at the end of the main line needs a good scrubbing a lot of burnt on food debris, need to find a better safe sanitary method of storing two knives at the main line between equipment that is soiled is not a good place, clean and disinfect the hand sink in the pizza prep room, and bar area floor needs to be cleaned at the edge where it meets the wall this mean better mopping and moving things. A re-inspection is scheduled. Re-inspected 7-5-18 and found violations corrected.
Subway 9F Medway Rd. 6-18-18 Two violations here. Cover bread sticks in the walk in freezer, and need thermometers for both walk in units.
Subway 94 Prospect St. 6-18-18 Violations here include the following. One food product not covered in the walk in freezer, need thermometers inside both walk in units.
Jo Anne Fabric Rt. 109 Medway Rd. 6-15-18 No violations here.
Pinz 110 S. Main St. 6-13-18 Two Violations here. Cover foods in both the walk in freezer and walk in cooler, and convection ovens (2) bases need to be cleaned.
Sam’s Energy 267 Main St 6-13-18 No violations here.
Performance Nutrition 196 E. Main St. 6-13-18 No violations here. All pre-packed boxes, bags, jars, cans etc. of nutrition supplements.
Walgreen’s 91 Prospect St 6-19-18 No violations here.
Unienvious 151 West St. 6-21-18 Need additional visible thermometers. No other violations here. Small ethnic grocery store well maintained.
Trinity Episcopal Church 17 Congress St. 6-21-18 No violations here. Just do 3 meals at the end of the month. Kitchen is clean well maintained. Actual use is minimal.
Sabor Latino 126 Main St. 6-20-18 Violations here include the following. No soap in the dispenser for the employee hand sink, there is a water leak in the faucet for the prep sink, need additional visible thermometers in coolers or freezers where missing or buried, 6 burner stove top is a mess and needs a through cleaning and scrubbing, floor areas by the stove and fryers is a mess with grease and food debris and needs to be cleaned so it shines, steel storage shelf under a stainless steel work table needs to be cleaned due to food debris on the shelf and pots and pans stored in this same area, and cover a storage bin of rice. A lot of food disposed of, some meats soups and other food products as temps taken were not cold or hot enough one meat product was a t 90 degrees. Language barrier was impenetrable and it could not be determined what the foods were for certain or how long they were there for or what the next step was. All disposed of for safety sake. It took several attempts to actually get the food disposed of which was actually assisted by this office. Next day I met with the owner of the restaurant and he explained the food that was there that we disposed of. I stated that I could not communicate with the employees at all and the result was the disposal of food. That same day I did note some violations were corrected. The water leak was corrected at the faucet, the 6 burner stove top was cleaned, and the container of rice was covered.
Sabor DeMina 122 E. Main St. 6-21-18 Violations here included the following. Keep the screen door in the back hooked to make sure it closes as best as possible, brush/clean small wire rack used to store equipment and utensils, food remnants on the food slicer even though it was covered, needs to be broken down further and cleaned and sanitized again and then covered again if desired, knives are to be cleaned and sanitized before storage in the knife rack one knife blade had food debris on it, clean door handle for the oven a little greasy, dish machine needs an increase in sanitizer level. Service called in that day during the inspection. Re-inspection scheduled.
Oliva’s Catering 85.5 Main St. 6-5-18 Violations here include the following. Food products (produce) cannot be stored on the floor in the outside walk in cooler, in the outside walk in dry goods storage unit way in the back there appears to be equipment and utensils in storage that may or may not be used these pieces of equipment and utensils are to be cleaned the storage shelves cleaned, in the second outside walk in cooler boxes of chicken cannot be stored on the floor, fan unit directly above canned goods storage rack needs to be cleaned due to heavy dust buildup, anyone working with food is to wear effective hair restraints and change gloves frequently, small 4 burner stove top at the very end of the main line needs a good scrubbing, very small storage area at the very end of the main line needs to be cleaned and organized this is where there is an electrical panel and floor area wall area in and around the entire dish machine area needs a good cleaning. A re-inspection is scheduled. Re-inspected 7-9-18 and found violations corrected.
Water’s Co. 5 Tech Drive St. Box of food cannot be stored on the floor in the walk in freezer, and time to cover the chicken in the walk in cooler it is at temp and needs to be covered.,
Wendy’s 128 Cedar St. 6-27-18 Violations here include the following. No paper towel at the hand sink, need a visible thermometer for the single door Turbo freezer, clean exterior metal edge of the ice machine and the inside white plastic shield inside the ice machine needs to be cleaned, paper towel dispenser in both restrooms need to work.
Tradesman 284 West St. 6-9-18 Violations here include the following. Clean the metal splash guard between the char broiler and the fryers, clean the four burner stove top, bag of flour cannot be stored on the floor and the bag has to be closed, clean the grill of the small household fan, do not store ice scoops in the ice at the bar area, floor area at the bar needs to be cleaned underneath the equipment, and remove whatever that wooden structure that has three junk draws in it and clean all around it. A re-inspection is scheduled. Re-inspected 6-28-18 and found violations corrected.
