MILFORD, MA — A long-planned Milford location of Rail Trail Flatbread Co. is likely a few months away from opening, even after the owners appeared before the Milford Select Board over a license this week.

The restaurant owners went to Monday's select board meeting to seek a "pledge of license" — a guarantee from the town that the restaurant would get a license to serve alcohol. The bank financing the Milford location is seeking the pledge as collateral for a $3.2 million small business loan, according to documents provided to the town.

In an email, co-owner Karim El-Gamal said the opening is being held up by "unpredictable construction phases," and that the company would have a better idea about an opening date possibly by March.

The company, which has had a restaurant in Hudson since 2012, announced plans for a Milford location in 2020. The restaurant received approvals in 2021, and "coming soon" signs have been placed outside the eventual location at 223 Main St., a former Rockland Trust bank.

The owners of Rail Trail Flatbread also operate the New City Microcreamery shops in Sudbury and Hudson, and the Less Than Greater Than restaurant in Hudson.
