Milford Softball Opens Season with 8-0 win over Taunton
The champion Milford High School Girls Softball team returned this week with an opening win, 8-0, over Taunton.
Editor's Note: the following information was received by Jim LeBrun, a Milford parent. The girls schedule is available here.
While Milford’s season opener was rained out Monday that did nothing to dampen their spirits for a tough game in Taunton the next day.
The cold did not seem to bother Milford bats as they banged out 15 hits: Sam Bonvino-3 for 4, Allie Piergustavo 3-4, R. Rachel Levine 3-4, as well as a mammoth 340+ foot home run by Caroline Fairbanks.

Shannon Smith and the Milford defense was also on it’s toes allowing just 3 runners and 1 hit for the game. Smith’s no hitter was broken up in the bottom of the 6th inning with a bloop single over first base and that was as far as the runner went.
After a strikeout to start the bottom of the seventh inning Smith walked the next batter. The game ended with a strikeout (13 strikeouts for the game) and then pick-off at first from catcher Taylor LeBrun to Piergustavo.
