MILFORD, MA — Milford is putting out another call for volunteers to serve on the Board Trustees for Vernon Grove Cemetery.

This is the second time in recent months the town has asked for volunteers for the board. The Milford Select Board began accepting applications in late June for two seats left open after former members Kristen Gardner and John Crean resigned.

The Select Board was set to meet on July 10 to interview and select the two new members — but no one applied. The town will now open up the application period again, with a plan to interview applicants at the Oct. 2 Milford Select Board meeting.

In general, the trustees oversee the preservation of the town-owned cemetery along Depot Street. The public cemetery is for town residents.

The members of the board are typically elected to three-year terms during spring elections. Since the two recent resignations came in the middle of regular terms, the new appointees will serve the remainder of each term. The appointees would also be able to run for reelection to a full term. Gardner's seat expires in February 2025, and Crean's in February 2024.
