New Assistant Principal At Woodland Elementary In Milford

Caridad Lopez comes to Milford from Jamaica Plain where she teaches at the Curley K-8 School.

MILFORD, MA—Superintendent Dr. Kevin McIntyre along with Woodland Elementary School Principal Tim Kearnan recently announced Caridad Lopez as the next assistant principal for the Woodland Elementary School. Lopez was chosen from a pool of nearly 50 applicants. Woodland Elementary teachers, administrators and parents helped narrow the field of candidates through their participation in the interview process, according to a release.

Lopez is currently the principal intern and a K-2 Teacher at the Curley K-8 School in Jamaica Plain. She also recently was an adjunct faculty member at UMass Boston in their Teach Plus Program. She has worked in education for the past decade, focusing on classroom instruction and teacher leadership. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from UMass Boston and her Master of Education Degree with a focus on Educational Administration from UMass Boston as well. She is also certified as a School Administrator in grades pre-K-6 and 5-8.

"I am extremely excited and humbled by the opportunity to join the administrative team as the new Assistant Principal at Woodland Elementary School,” said Lopez in a statement. “I look forward to building relationships and connecting with the students, families, staff and the community in order to continue the great work already happening in Milford Public Schools. I'm excited to bring my experience in data-driven instruction and data cycles to support teachers in developing student-centered learning experiences and academic growth."

Woodland Principal Tim Kearnan had nothing but praise for the choice.

“I think she's going to be a great asset to our administrative team as well as to our students, families, and staff," Kearnan in a statement. "Caridad's skill set and knowledge as an educator were very impressive as were her experiences in a diverse K-8 Boston elementary school as a Principal Intern and Teacher Leader. Though we had a sense of it from her interviews, her references strongly confirmed that Mrs. Lopez is an exemplary student-centered educator who fosters strong relationships with kids and families."
