Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham Breaks Gala Records

Thanks to an outpouring of generosity from the community, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital’s 14th annual gala broke fundraising and attendance records last week.

More than 500 guests raised a record-breaking $360,000 to benefit the new Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Center and Surgical Pavilion, a collaboration of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and BID-Needham, slated to break ground next spring. These funds are in addition to the one million dollars already raised as part of the hospital’s $6 million capital campaign for the new building.

“We are so grateful for everyone’s support of the new Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Center and Surgical Pavilion,” said John Fogarty, President and CEO of BID-Needham. “The success of this year’s Gala is an important signal of the community’s commitment to continue to bring world class care to Needham and surrounding communities.”

The $24 million cost of the Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Center and Surgical Pavilion will be financed by a combination of community-raised capital campaign funds and significant investments by BID–Needham and BIDMC. BID–Needham must raise $6 million to make this cancer center and surgical pavilion a reality.

“The success of our capital campaign relies on the vision of the community,” said Rick Davis, Chair, Board of Trustees. “We are off to a great start. We are so fortunate to be in a community that recognizes the importance of advancing health care in the community for ourselves, our children, and all future generations.”

Hospital trustees Michael Lombard and Greg Hoffmeister, both Needham residents, were co-chairs of the event. They led a Gala Committee comprised of more than 60 employees and community leaders who carefully planned the 100th Birthday Bash Gala celebrating the hospital’s century of caring in the community.
