Needham Woman Spending Four Months in Antarctica

While New Englanders may feel like they live at the South Pole when winter sets in, one Needham woman really will be.

Jamie Clark of Needham is spending the next four months working with the U.S. Antarctic Program, which conducts climate research and other studies in Antarctica.

Clark will be working at the program’s commissary—a shop that serves the approximately 1,100 people who live there, she told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Monday morning.

WBZ's Deb Lawler interviewed Clark before she left via Logan Airport for the trip south to New Zealand, where she will undergo preparations for the four-month stint in the Arctic. She will then travel to her new home, McMurdo Station, the U.S. Antarctic Program’s logistics hub.

Clark's dad, Bob, is a newswriter at WBZ NewsRadio 1030, according to the article.
