Dementia In Newton, 5 Things To Know

NEWTON, MA — A new free information session designed to help community members understand dementia is set to begin Friday.

Newton city employee Emily Kuhl is leading the "Dementia Friends Training," developed by the Alzheimer's Society in the United Kingdom.

The idea is that by helping community members understand what dementia is and how it affects people, individuals can make a difference for people touched by dementia.

"You will learn five key messages about dementia and a bit about what it’s like to live with dementia," according to Newton Department of Senior Services Jayne Colino. "This program is led by Case Manager Emily Kuhl and is open to Newton city employees, Seniors, and non-Senior residents. Register with the Front Desk at 617-796-1660."

The session begins at 2 p.m. and lasts an hour Friday, Jan. 31. at the Newton Senior Center on Walnut Street.

It is not a formal training, according to Colino. The session has activities and discussion that cover the five messages.
