Dog Killed, Woman Injured When Hit By Car In Newton
This is the third report of a pedestrian being hit by a car so far this year in Newton.
NEWTON, MA — A dog was killed and a woman injured when a man drove his car through a crosswalk and hit them on Lexington Street behind Burr School Monday morning.
An ambulance rushed the 54-year-old woman to Brigham and Women's hospital, but the small dog she was walking was killed, said Lt. Michael Bianchi, a spokesperson for the Newton Fire Department.
Officials said someone called 911 around 9:40 a.m. The woman, who was staying in Newton, was walking the dog near 227 Lexington St., according to Lt. Bruce Apotheker. He said she pushed the button for the crosswalk and when the lights started flashing began to cross.

That's when a car heading toward Auburndale Square hit her.
The woman was conscious when taken to the hospital, fire officials said. The woman suffered from face and neck injuries, police said.

"The dog unfortunately has succumbed to its injuries," Bianci told Patch.
Police cited the driver, a 48-year-old Waltham man with failing to yield at a crosswalk.
This is the third report of a pedestrian hit by a car so far this year in Newton. Most recently, a school crossing guard suffered minor injuries after she was hit by a slow-moving car shortly after school let out at Memorial-Spaulding Elementary School. The other was around 1:45 p.m. Jan. 9 near the intersection of Cherry and Webster streets, according to police data.
