The following is a press release issued by Mayor Setti Warren's office:
On April 3 from 6:30-8:00pm, Mayor Warren will be hosting a reception to raise awareness for the Pan- Mass Challenge (PMC). Founded in 1980, the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is an annual bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country. The PMC donates 100% of every rider- raised dollar to the Dana- Farber Cancer Institute.
Mayor Warren will be joined by the founder of the PMC, Billy Starr, and Victoria Kennedy to thank volunteers and riders from Newton and talk about the PMC’s goal of raising $36 Million for this year’s ride. Newton residents have been some of the leading fundraisers for the PMC, leading all cities in 2008 with $2 Million raised, and raising more than $1.2 Million from 192 riders last year. Mayor Warren is one of 160 Newton residents already signed up to ride in this year’s event.
