Possible Big Snowstorm to Hit Newton This Weekend

Newton could see up to a foot of snow.

The snow may be melting, but it's not quite time to put the shovels away.

A new snowstorm is headed our way for Saturday and Sunday, and Newton could see up to 12 inches of new snow before it's done.

According to a warning from the National Weather Service, there is a "high probability" for a strong storm to impact southern New England late Saturday into Sunday.

On his blog, WHDH meteorologist Chris Lambert says the storm will start with rain and eventually turn in to heavy, wet snow.

Snow will start between 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. and continue overnight Saturday into Sunday, Lambert writes. The storm should wrap up by midday Sunday.

As of Thursday morning, forecasts call for 8 to 12 inches of new snow in the Newton area. Lambert predicts the highest snowfall amounts will be north and west of Boston.

Although this storm is not likely to be as big as the Blizzard of 2013 a few weeks ago, the National Weather Service says power outages are possible with the large amount of heavy, wet snow.
