DA Plans to Try Tsarnaev in Death of Sean Collier

Tsarnaev was indicted by a grand jury back in March. Middlesex County DA looking to bring him back to the Massachusetts to face charges.

Convicted Boston Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev may be coming back to Massachusetts to face charges in the death of Sean Collier.

Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan told the Boston Globe she plans to bring Tsarnaev back to the state to face charges in Collier’s death and other crimes that occurred following the 2013 bombing.

Tsarnaev was sentenced to death back in June after being convicted of 30 federal charges for his role in the attack.

In March, Tsarnaev was indicted by a Middlesex County Grand Jury for Collier’s murder. At the time, Ryan said her department intended to move forward with criminal charges after his federal trial ended.

Sean Collier, an MIT officer at the time of his death, Somerville resident and a Wilmington native was killed four days after the Boston Marathon bombings when he was ambushed in his police cruiser by Tsarnaev and his brother, who were the center of the manhunt that terrorized the state and the region, killing four and injuring more than 170 others.

Ryan’s office told the Globe it’s just starting the process of asking the federal government to return Tsarnaev to the Bay State. He’s currently being held at a maximum security federal penitentiary in Colorado.
