New Barre Brand Arrives in Somerville
Jess Perkins will be teaching "Up to the Barre and Booty" at the Somerville Dance Union.

Jess Perkins, known for her popular Zumba Classes, has launched a new endeavor in Somerville.
“Up to the Barre and Booty” Barre is an energetic and fun workout that fuses fitness techniques from dance, pilates and yoga to create a long, lean, sculpted body, improved posture, a strong core and lifted buns.
“It’s no surprise that celebrities are fans of the high energy/low impact workout,” Perkins noted.

While some of the moves will make you feel like you’re a prima ballerina or Rockette, you don’t need dance experience. With the perfect combination of isometrics, strength, flexibility and added cardio to burn fat fast, students can expect slimmer, leaner bodies after a few months of regular attendance.

Ballet & Dance Inspired Moves
Working on the floor and at the ballet barre, your entire body is worked from head to toe for the duration of the class, which fatigues the muscles. Isometric Plies and booty dips shorten the muscles, followed by the flexibility and lengthening section (kicks). You’ll get the benefits of ballet training, long lean muscles and abs of steel.
Cardio Intervals to Boost Your Fat Burn
Short bursts of cardio for 30-45 seconds do wonders to bodies. The heart rate gets a boost; you start sweating, moving the body faster, while still low impact so it’s safe for joints. This confuses the metabolism and increases caloric burn during and after the class.
Instructor Guidance
Jess demonstrates the moves and adjusts students to ensure safety and form.
Done regularly, the proof is in the pudding: you trim the hips, thighs and buns and get toned muscles without looking bulky.
